Over the past month I have been in the garage stripping old fabric, horse hair, hay, foam, staples, and nails off of a few antique furniture pieces so they will be ready to work on after Christmas. There’s a lot of dirt and dust to deal with so my plan was to get everything down to the frames before bringing them into the house.
The feature photo above is one of the pieces that I finished stripping down and am excited to work on in the new year is a settee from the 1920s. This piece has been in my garage for two years and it is now in the lineup for a makeover.
There’s a parlour chair from the late 1800s that is in pieces right now so I will be fixing the frame before getting to the pretty stuff.
I’m also going to try my hand at upcycling an octagonal coffee table into an upholstered ottoman. It is currently sitting upside down on my work benches. I have some big plans for this one based on one I saw by a designer I follow. My inspiration picture is below.

And finally, I found a darling small antique club chair for a song and am excited about learning how to do this style of chair over the winter.
These pieces will stay in the garage until after Christmas, because the holiday season has begun in our home!
This old house will be a blaze of activity over the weekend when we welcome old and new friends for a few days of fun and friendship. There will be a mix of dietary requirements — vegan, vegetarian, and meat and potato lovers — offering lots of opportunity to get creative in the kitchen!

On Saturday we plan on attending an outdoor Christmas market with live entertainment, horse and carriage rides, carolling, and late night shopping.
Once the festivities are over and the new year begins there will be a lineup of furniture to create in beautiful, colourful, patterned fabric!
