A few months ago I was invited into a client’s home to talk about upholstering chairs for her dining room. Her home is gorgeous with lots of colour, pattern, and texture from her artwork, fabric choices, and thoughtful decor.
Although her dining room is a beautiful space, she wanted to inject an elegant and whimsical feel using dining room chairs as the statement pieces. As it currently stands her artwork are statements in their own right, but we both agreed that the room would sing with more colour.
Dining rooms are special places that bring family and friends together and I believe a lot of thought should go in to creating a beautiful space where you welcome guests and make them feel comfortable and loved.
It really doesn’t matter how your dining room is laid out in your home — whether it is a separate room, open to the kitchen and other living areas, or whether it is just a small table in a corner — what matters most is how you make the experience special for those you welcome and serve.
I am humbled to be invited into my client’s dining room to help her create a perfectly colourful space where she can invite loved ones to linger.
The dining room chairs she has had for years are solid, high quality pieces, however the wood frames are dark with black leather seats, and she is ready to let them go in order to make room for chairs that are full of colour and represent her fun personality.
So, she searched online to find old chairs to make new again and these are what she came across.

They are a set of six chairs with large seats and high backs. The seats are substantial, which will add to the comfort of being with friends over a long meal. The high backs have a lovely scroll detail and the curvy front legs win my heart every time! The upholstery is in rough shape, but that is neither here nor there as what matters is the sturdiness and condition of the frames.
I have torn off the old upholstery, taking out hundreds of staples, until all that was left was the wooden frame. Now the fun begins!

And, just in case you’re curious what colours we’ve chosen, here is a sneak peak of the “hero” fabric being used on the chairs!

That’s all I’m sharing until the next post, so stay tuned!
