My mother turned 85 years young on April 17, 2025. To celebrate her birthday, family members from around NS (Cape Breton), NFLD, NB and ONT travelled to Brookfield, NS to surprise her, and surprise her we did… all day long, one by one, knocks on her door, tears of joy and lots of laughter and hugs — all captured on video; it was a family reunion/birthday weekend all wrapped up in one!
I would love to share with you the many videos and photos that captured the beautiful moments because I know they would give you much joy too and make you laugh and possibly cry, but some things are personal and I must keep it that way.
But one thing I will share with you is the birthday chair that I gifted my mother.
I had been wanting to give one of my chairs to Mom ever since I learned how to make old chairs new again but because of the many kilometres between us (1400) I couldn’t just drop one off on her doorstep.
However, when I knew I would be driving down east for her birthday I made sure that space was allotted in the car to transport a chair, a birthday chair!
I think she was pleasantly surprised to find it under the blanket.
Mom, I hope the yellow fabric with colourful potted plants and blue painted frame brightens up your space and will always put a smile on your face. Love you Mom!
